SUPP refusal to work with UPP only help DAP

Tan Sri Adenan Satem wanted SUPP and UPP to reconcile their differences:

KUCHING, Mar 7: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) should explore the possibility of working together with its breakaway party, the United People’s Party (UPP), instead of fighting each other.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem said this would be “much much better” for the state’s Chinese community.

He made the suggestion when officiating the SUPP’s Chap Goh Mei gathering here Friday.

“Both parties are, after all, strong supporters of the Barisan Nasional. They should not fight each other but work together. Then, it will be easier for us all to fight the opposition like the DAP and PKR.

“I hope Senator Datuk Dr Sim Khui Hian (SUPP president) and Datuk Sri Wong Soon Koh (UPP president) can sit together and talk,” he said.

Wong responded positively:

Wong leaves it to Adenan to close SUPP-UPP divide

Posted on March 12, 2015, Thursday

KUCHING: United People’s Party (UPP) president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh is leaving it to the wisdom of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem to resolve outstanding issues that could open up the possibility of reconciliation with Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).

“Since the chief minister has raised this, he may have a formula or direction to resolve this matter,” he said in responding to Adenan’s call for SUPP to negotiate with its splinter party UPP during the SUPP Chap Goh Meh celebration recently.

Wong, who is also Local Government and Community Development Minister, met reporters after chairing the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) press conference on flood problems at its headquarters here yesterday.

“So with the chief minister’s wisdom in politics, we leave it to him to address and deal with the issues faced by these two parties,” he added.
