NFCorp’s defamation suit against Nurul Izzah to continue as mediation fails

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 — The National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) will continue with its lawsuit against PKR’s Nurul Izzah Anwar over her allegedly defamatory remarks in 2012, where she purportedly claimed that the company had used funds meant for a cattle-rearing project to buy eight luxury condominiums costing a total RM12 million.
NFCorp’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said both sides failed to reach a settlement, saying his client could not accept the two settlement terms proposed by the lawyers for Nurul Izzah and PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
“We have given a counter-proposal, they also feel they cannot accept. Also because there is a connected case which involves Rafizi (Ramli) which may have an impact if they decide to compromise on this. As a result we have no resolution,” he said after mediation talks before High Court Judicial Commissioner Vazeer Alam Mydin.
Shafee confirmed that no trial date has been fixed yet, adding that the lawsuit is up for case management before High Court judge Datuk Hue Siew Kheng on September 2.
