Hotel Review: Alisea Boutique Hotel

If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Krabi which is truly boutique and traditionally Thai, look no further than the Alisea Boutique Hotel. 

The Alisea Boutique Hotel has it all: an infinity pool, balcony bathtubs and the most amazing private beach. 

We spent two nights at the Alisea Boutique Hotel, and this is what we thought:

Check in

The first thing we noticed when we checked in was that the Alisea has style!! The check in area is spacious, with grand columns and lots of natural light. There is even a Koi pond!

As we were shown up to our room, some of Alisea's more homely assets were pointed out to us: downstairs is a pool table, on the middle floor is a mini library and every night at 5pm a home cinema is set up for guests to enjoy. A true home away from home!

Our room

Like the rest of the hotel, our room was stylish and had a really homey feel. Our bed was gigantic, as was the shower. 

I can't stress how homey the room was though, perhaps it's because this room comes with an upstairs! 

Upstairs is an extra bed and a balcony. On the balcony is the most gigantic bath tub we've ever seen - definitely big enough for two.

Thanks to Aonang Cliff Beach Resort we've become addicted to balcony bath tubs - you can watch the sunset from the comfort of your room, whilst relaxing in the water.

Private beach

If you watched daily vlog 24 the whole way through (we hope so!) you'll have seen Andamana beach club featured. 

This was one of our absolute favourite things about the Alisea: they have a private beach! This is located about 15 minutes drive from the hotel, and is insanely beautiful. 

The hotel provides a free shuttle to and fro every two hours. Once there, there are beach bean bags, hammocks, rope swings, normal swings; everything you need (and more) to hang out and have the most relaxing afternoon ever.

This was actually our favourite beach in Thailand and we spent two perfect afternoons there. 

Umberto's

The best Thai street food in Krabi is a three minute walk from the Alisea Boutique hotel, and we recommend you go there for lunch. 

But for dinner, be prepared to have what is quite possibly the best pizza in Asia. Umberto's do the most incredible pizzas, and they are located on site! 

The pizza was just as good as pizzas we've had in Italy, and when we met the chef, we knew why (he's Italian). 

These pizzas were so good we actually had them two nights running!! The Alisea will even bring the pizza up to your room at no extra cost! 

Breakfast

Breakfast at the Alisea did not disappoint. They have a great selection: Thai breakfast, eggs, bacon, yoghurts, fruits, breads, cereals and even doughnuts! To see what we had, check out day 25:

The infinity pool 

Last, but certainly not least, is the infinity pool. This pool has excellent views, especially at sunset! It also has really comfy sunbeds and more bean bag chairs. 

Your biggest problem here will be deciding whether to hang out at the infinity pool, in your bathtub or at the private beach! Make sure you make time for all three! 

Conclusion

We really LOVED our stay at the Alisea Boutique Hotel, it was everything we could have hoped for and more: the room was perfect, the staff were lovely, the food was delicious. Add the balcony bathtubs, deserted beaches and divine pizza in our room and there's nothing else we can call it except perfect. You must stay here when you visit Krabi!!!

Hotel Review: Parc Sovereign Tyrwhitt, Singapore

If you're looking for a hotel in Singapore that is conveniently located and feels like a home away from home, then look no further; You've found Parc Sovereign Tyrwhitt. 

Parc Sovereign Tyrwhitt are committed to making you feel at home and boast stylish rooms for leisure and business travellers alike.  

We stayed for one night in the Deluxe Resort Room and this is what we thought:

Our room
Our room was cozy and had everything we needed including a hair dryer, slippers, a safe and complimentary tea, coffee and water. 

There was also really excellent wifi (a real must for us) and cable TV. 

Along with the usual plugs, they also had 2 USB receiver sockets. Most of the things we charge use USB (phone, camera, iPad) so this was a really cool asset.

Our favourite thing about the room though, was our balcony. It was so nice to have that outdoor space, and the chair was really comfy! 



We loved that hammock chair! 

The rooftop swimming pool

The pool is on the roof and is super cool. As you can see in the photos, it's really long which leaves plenty of space for everyone! 

We really loved that the pool was outdoors. This meant that we could enjoy the view and sky - not to mention Singapore's high, high temperatures! 

It also makes for some pretty luxurious photos! 

The gym

Situated next to the pool was Parc Sovereign Tyrwhitt's gym. This was the perfect location, as you can relax in the pool after a hard work out. The gym is fully equipped. 

 Other services

Parc Sovereign Tyrwhitt offers lots of other services including, but not limited to, bellhop, concierge, tour desk, taxi services, baggage storage and laundry. 

Nearby attractions
Parc Sovereign Tyrwhitt boasts many nearby attractions including the City Square Mall, Mustafa Centre, Bugis Street, Plaza Singapura and Lau Pa Sat. 

Parc Sovereign Tyrwhitt is also located very close to Lavender Metro Station. And from here you can reach anywhere and everywhere in Singapore quickly and cheaply.



Parc Sovereign Tyrwhitt is also very close to an excellent supermarket - Fair Price - which is stocked with everything you could need, at a fair price. 

How to get to Parc Sovereign Tyrwhitt from Changi Airport
We chose to take the metro from the airport. Despite having a station inside the airport, the metro is hard to find, because the airport is so big!! 

Nevertheless, we found it, and after that it was very easy. The metro only goes in one direction (away from the airport). We changed at Tanah Merah and made sure we were headed in the Joo Koon direction (number 2).  After about 20 minutes we got out at Lavender Station. 

Outside Lavender Station it was very easy to find Parc Sovereign Tyrwhitt and just a 10 minute walk. 

The metro route really is very easy (if you can find the metro in the airport). Navigating the metro in Singapore was easier than in any other country we've been to. Here's a metro map of Singapore to help you. 

Alternatively, you can get a car straight from the airport to Parc Sovereign Tyrwhitt. 

Conclusion
All in all, our stay at Parc Sovereign Tyrwhitt was comfortable and easy. We had everything we needed plus a great rooftop pool and gym.

Jungle Safari, Crystal Pool and Hot Spring Tour, Krabi

Trekking through the tropical Kao Prak Bang National Park, bathing in the mineral enriched Emerald Pool and climbing to the top of Wat Tham Sua are all absolute musts when you come to Krabi. 

We joined up with Krabi Spesialisten to try out these things on their Jungle Safari, Crystal Pool and Hot Spring Tour and this is what we thought: 

Wat Tham Sua / Tiger Cave Temple

First things first, don't be confused and think this is one of those AWFUL places where you can go and have your photo taken with a drugged tiger. This is an actual temple and there are no real tigers here, though apparently one of the last wild tigers hung out here (hence the name).

There are two options here, you can choose to hang out near the bottom and see where the monks live, or you can brave the (steep) 1,237 steps to the top. 

On the way your path may be blocked by a family of wild monkeys!: 

Monkeys and a Travelling Weasel

They were so adorable and there was even a tiny weeny baby! 

It's lucky that there are cute monkeys to distract you, and increasingly incredible views, because the walk is very hard. 

Be sure to take plenty of water with you, your camera and something to cover up with (it's a temple). This is all you need, and one of the (many) great things about being on this tour is you can leave everything else safely in the van. 

Trust us, the less you take up with you, the easier the walk is! 

It takes about an hour, but when you get there you immediately know it's been worth it. There are 360 degree views and you can see for miles:

This was our favourite view when we were in Thailand. These photos don't do it justice - you'll just have to go and see for yourself! 

There is also a GIGANTIC beautiful Buddha at the top: 

and you may even see a monk or two:

The Buddha really is enormous and enchanting:

I think that's the same monk. 

Luckily for your calves, the walk down is a lot easier and only takes 20 mins. (30 if you stop to snap the monkeys again ;) )

If you can manage it, the walk to the top really is worth it, the views are unbelievable, the Buddha is mesmerising and you won't feel guilty when you pig out at lunch - which comes next! 

Lunch

We had a delicious, traditional Thai lunch in an authentic venue. There was Yom Tom Soup (my favourite), beef, omelette, rice, chicken and cashew and plenty of watermelon. It was all delicious. And we didn't feel guilty coming back for seconds! 

Emerald Pool

Next up was a trip to the Emerald Pool. This is a mineral enriched, crystal clear pool. We LOVED it here: 

This pool is an absolute must for everyone's Thailand bucket list! 

One of the (many) great things about our tour guide, Jimmy, was that he volunteered to stay with all of our stuff whilst we had fun in the water!

This gave us peace of mind, and we could fully concentrate on our Instagram photos ;)

As you can see, the water is super clear! There were even a few fish there, so if you have a snorkel set or goggles, bring them along too! 

Jungle trek

After our Emerald Pool dip, we all looked and felt years younger. It was then time for our trek through the jungle! 

The trek went at a leisurely pace and was exactly what we needed after our fascinating morning, delicious lunch and relaxing pool swim!

It was really beautiful, and we saw plenty more natural pools and some gigantic fish.

Hot springs

The final part of the tour was our favourite: bathing in the natural volcanic waterfall. The water was so WARM! 

This was a nice change, almost all the pools we went in in Thailand (natural and man made alike) were cold. It was great to get into a warm pool for once! 

Next to the warm waterfall was the river, which was cold. It was nice to be able to alternate between the two, and there was even a rope swing!  

After a final stop for tea and coffee, it was back to our hotel.

Conclusion 

All in all, we had an amazing day out. We spent 26 days in Thailand and this day was definitely in our top 5 days, so we highly recommend it.

We also went on Krabi Spesialisten's Phi Phi Highlights Tour, which we also loved. If you don't have that much time in Krabi and have to choose between these two tours, it would be really hard to give you an answer as both give you monkeys, authentic Thailand, beautiful swimming spots... it's up to you really, do you prefer islands or jungle!

Hotel Review: The L Resort

If you are looking for a resort in Ao Nang, Krabi, that's extremely close to Ao Nang Beach and serves the most incredible breakfast. Then look no further. You've found The L Resort, Krabi.

Newly renovated, this place has all the peace, comforts and ease of European living, but is still right in the middle of Ao Nang, with easy access to shops, restaurants and bars.

We stayed at the L Resort for two nights and this is what we thought: 

Check in
We were an hour or so early for our check in, and were pleasantly surprised to be able to wait in an awesome waiting room, complete with comfy sofas, tv and air con! This is such an ingenious idea! There was even a shower in there. 

The Room

Our room was spacious and comfortable with a giant bed. The shower was massive too and there was complimentary water, tea and coffee. Our room also had a pool view balcony!

But the best thing about our room was so cool, that it deserves its own little header:

The iPads(!)

Each room at the the L Resort comes with its own iPad. These can be used to check email, surf the web and use the L Resort's very own app. You can arrange wake up calls, tours, and even book dinner on here.

The iPads won't work outside the resort, and have to be returned at the end of your stay, of course, but it's such a great idea and we loved it. 

The pools

If you can drag yourself away from the iPads for long enough, take the time to explore the L Resorts pools and jacuzzi. 

The two pools are massive! For sunbathing they don't just have sunbeds next to the pool, but in the pools too! 

The jacuzzi is also great (and also massive). It's perfect for chilling out in with a couple of beers and some friends. 

Or just take the chance to pose for some photos in it!

Speaking of posing, there is also an outdoor shower which is perfect for your Instagram shots!

The location

Ao Nang Beach is literally a stone's throw from the L Resort. It was so nice to have a beach day and not have to worry about conserving enough energy to get back to our hotel! Plus, if you forget anything (towels, suncream, beer) it's no effort to go back and get it! 

The breakfast

Our absolute favourite thing about the L Resort though, was the breakfast. Breakfast is our favourite meal of the day, so you know if a hotel has iPads, multiple pools and is right next to the beach and we're still saying breakfast was our favourite thing, then the breakfast must be epic. And it really was.

The selection was extensive: breads, cupcakes, croissants, jams, honeys, eggs (cooked to your specification), Thai breakfast, cereals, muesli, coffee, milo(!), juice, fruit, yoghurt. But, best of all were the cheeses and the smoked salmon! We haven't even seen cheese since we left Italy, and theses cheeses were amazing. 

This was hands down our favourite breakfast in Thailand, so even if you don't get a chance to actually stay at the L Resort, just pop by for breakfast one morning! You won't be disappointed. 

Conclusion

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at the L Resort. It was comfortable and had lots of  niceties: pools, beaches, balcony. But add iPads and the best breakfast ever to that mix and you have yourself an excellent hotel!

Hotel Review: Aonang Cliff Beach Resort & Spa

If you're looking for somewhere relaxing and luxurious to stay in Krabi, look no further than Aonang Cliff Beach Resort & Spa.

Aonang Cliff Beach Resort & Spa is the most relaxing place ever: they have an infinity pool, balcony bathtubs, a private beach and of course, the spa!

We spent two nights at the Aonang Cliff Beach Resort & Spa and this is what we thought: 

Check-in:

First impressions taught us that the Aonang Cliff Beach Resort is an oasis of calm in Aonang. On check-in we were treated to refreshing, cold flannels and delicious juice. It was very thoughtful. 

Our room

The room was INCREDIBLE. The bed was massive, the shower was massive, actually the whole room was massive. 

And to top it off, there was also a massive balcony with a 180 degree view - to the left were the gorgeous limestone karsts, and to the right was the Andaman Sea! 

But there weren't just comfy chairs to chillax in and look at the view, there was also our own balcony bathtub!

Sunset bar

One level up from our room was the Sunset Bar, here we enjoyed some tasty cocktails whilst watching the sun sink below the sea. Every sunset we'd seen in Thailand was incredible, but sitting in a beautiful bar, sipping delicious cocktails made it out of this world. 

The dinner

Downstairs Aonang Cliff Beach Resort & Spa throw a tremendous buffet which is open for anyone - even non guests. 

We tried it out and it was yummy! There were lots of options - BBQ, seafood, typical Thai food, Indian food, chips, sushi, kebabs, salad, fruits, dessert, ice cream(!) We stuffed ourselves with BBQ, seafood, chips and then ice cream. It was so, so good. We highly recommend it. 

The show

Dinner also came with an incredible show, which was very entertaining. The dancers were talented and very nice!

The Infinity Pool

We LOVED the infinity pool, it's positioned perfectly so that when you are in it, the sea you can see in the distance is on the same level as your water - it's like you're swimming in the sea! But without the gross sea water and waves! 

If a beautiful view and the feeling that you're swimming in the sea (when you're not) isn't enough for you, check this out: JACUZZI SUNBEDS IN THE POOL! 

If you're anything like us, you'll have spent years with this struggle: do you lie next to the pool and perfect your tan, or do you get in the pool and cool off? Sure you can get in and out, OR you could introduce yourself to a pool sunbed! PLUS there are jets all over it, so you can turn it into a jacuzzi too! 

The Spa

We had the most amazing afternoon chilling out in the spa. We both had a hot stone massage, and it was fantastic! We'd never had one before, and from the photos we'd seen of it, we assumed it was a lot of lying around with hot stones on our backs. But it was so much better than that!! First a body part (back, leg, foot, neck, stomach) was massaged with oil, then that same part was massaged with a hot stone. It was great!! The best massage that we had in Thailand. 

The breakfast

Aonang Cliff Beach Resort & Spa serves a buffet breakfast which is very delicious and the choice is extensive: fried breakfast, Thai breakfast, fruit, breads, cheeses, olives, salad, yoghurt, cereals.. it was all very nice. 

The private beach

Aonang Cliff Beach Resort & Spa share a private beach with another awesome hotel, Alisea Boutique Hotel. Although we didn't visit the beach when we were staying at the Aonang Cliff Beach, we did visit when we were staying at the Alisea. Conclusion

As you might have been able to tell, we absolutely loved our stay at the Aonang Cliff Beach Resort & Spa and can't recommend it highly enough! The combination of infinity pool, spa and balcony bathtub was a real winner!
